Job Opportunity - Quantitative Graduate Research Assistant

Australia’s leading provider of research consulting services to the public sector is looking for an enthusiastic graduate to join our growing team.  Full-time opportunities at the Research Assistant level are available in our Melbourne and Canberra offices.

As a Research Assistant at ORIMA Research you will have the opportunity work in a consulting environment on a wide range of qualitative and quantitative research projects aimed at developing, evaluating and refining government programs, policies and services. You will also be involved in undertaking research designed to assist organisations improve their performance such as employee engagement.  You will work closely with the most respected and best minds in our industry and have a chance to contribute to evidence-based government policy and engagement strategies.

Your key duties will include assisting research consultants to conduct research by undertaking data processing and data file preparation and assisting in analysing and interpreting results by generating charts, conducting statistical analysis and preparing written analysis as input to reports for our clients.

You will work on a rotational basis across a number of teams and research disciplines to develop and hone your consulting skills.

While tertiary qualifications in the fields of Economics, Econometrics, Actuarial Studies, Statistics and/or Social Science fields are preferred, candidates with relevant tertiary qualifications in other disciplines will be considered. Knowledge and experience of research methodologies, Excel skills and SPSS statistics software would be desirable but not essential.

Key duties in this role include:

  • assisting research consultants to conduct research consultancies;
  • data processing and data file preparation (including coding of open-ended responses);
  • assisting in analysing and interpreting data (using SPSS and Excel);
  • generating charts and descriptive statistics;
  • organising and supporting research fieldwork;
  • drafting descriptive text for reports and other written analysis; and
  • undertaking basic, structured telephone interviews.

Selection criteria

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • have recently completed, or be in your final undergraduate year of completing a qualification in Economics, Econometrics, Actuarial Studies, Statistics and/or Social Science or other relevant degree;
  • demonstrate a high level of academic performance (i.e. distinction average or higher at tertiary level);
  • demonstrate strong analytical skills;
  • have strong attention to detail;
  • proven written and oral communication skills;
  • demonstrate excellent time management and organisation skills;
  • demonstrate the ability to work in a small team environment and be a genuine team player with a strong positive attitude;
  • have an interest in the public sector and/ or social research; and
  • be an Australian citizen for permanent resident.
