Congratulations to Professor Margot Prior

Prof Margot Prior with daughter Sian Prior

Our congratulations are due to Honorary Professorial Fellow Margot Prior, who has just been awarded the degree of Doctor of Science honoris causa by the University of Melbourne. The degree has been awarded for her "highly distinguished contributions to the scientific investigation of child psychology and the application of developmental research to clinical practice and social policy."

Margot has had a long and illustrious career at this University that dates back to her undergraduate degree in music, continuing through a professorial position that began in 1994 when she was the Inaugural Director of Psychology at the Royal Children's Hospital, and more recently in her honorary professorial position in the School. She has also had a long and distinguished association with La Trobe University, where she was appointed as the first female Professor of Clinical Psychology in Australia in 1989.

Margot's research on child temperament, autism, ADHD and language development are world renowned and has been highly influential. She has also been a prominent public voice for child welfare, peace and social justice. She remains very active in her scientific work, holding appointments at La Trobe University and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, and in her roles as Patron of Autism Victoria and Chair of the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre.

The School is very proud to be associated with Margot, and we celebrate her achievement. We look forward to seeing her receive this honour at a conferring ceremony later in the year.
