Congratulations to Dr Khandis Blake for receiving a DECRA!

We would like to congratulate Dr Khandis Blake for receiving a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council! The DECRA grant is worth $448,000 over the course of three years, and was awarded for Dr Blake’s project investigating the link between self-objectification, economic inequality, and status anxiety.

Self-objectification is a phenomenon where people derive their primary worth from physical attractiveness. Self-objectification – which has reached epidemic levels in Australia – has widespread negative implications for mental wellbeing and physical health.

Dr Blake’s research seeks to understand the socioeconomic causes of self-objectification, which may provide needed insight into why it is rising among women and men, as well as targeted policy interventions to lessen its burden.

MSPS warmly congratulates Dr Blake on her success.
