Graduating Master of Applied Psychology students

MAP students

On Saturday July 27th, the first Master of Applied Psychology (MAP) students graduated (the photo is of four of these graduates: Winona, Tiffany, Kate, and Emma). It was a wonderful ceremony and exciting to see the first MAP students ready to go out into the world. Even though they have just graduated, many already have full time jobs in fields such as market research, advertising/communications, behaviour change research, and data analytics. We will provide a full update on employment outcomes soon.

The MAP is a degree that we created to provide a pathway for students who have an undergraduate degree in Psychology but who want to pursue careers in social research, advertising, government policy, health behaviour change, behavioural insights…anything where an understanding of how people make decisions would be useful. To give you an idea of what our students do and how valued they are in the workforce, here is a video showcasing some of the internships that our MAP students complete as part of their degree.

We are thrilled with the wide range and strong reputation of our internship host organisations. They represent diverse industries, from government departments to advertising agencies. Some of our 2019 hosts included The Behavioural Insights Team (Sydney), The TAC, Cancer Council Victoria, The Victorian Government Behavioural Insights Unit, Forethought Research, Roy Morgan Research, Our Watch, Cummins & Partners, and the Centre for Evidence and Implementation. Our compilation video focuses on three of our host organisations.

The positive feedback from our internship hosts demonstrates the value of the skills and knowledge our MAP students bring to “real world” work environments putting behavioural insight and attitude change into action.
