Recent MSPS success

Dr Khandis Blake

Please join us in warmly congratulating Dr Khandis Blake, who has been successful in winning a DECRA in the latest ARC Investigator round, totalling $463K to test socioeconomic and motivational influences on self-objectification. This is a very impressive achievement, with only 2 DECRAs awarded across all of MDHS!

This award will support the important work that Khandis is doing in the area of gender and the psychology of physical appearance, which forms part of the burgeoning Physical Appearance Research Team (PART) in the School, further growing the School’s research profile in this field.

We would also like to recognise the hard work and commitment of those researchers in the School who were unsuccessful in this DECRA round, and to encourage you to apply in future rounds given the fierce competition.

Professor Sarah Wilson and Professor Nick Allen

CaoOur warm congratulations to Prof Sarah Wilson, Head of MSPS, and Prof Nick Allen, Honorary of our School for their induction as Fellows into the Academy of Social Science 2020.

Each year, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia elects the most distinguished social scientists in Australia as Fellows. These New Fellows will join the ranks of over 700 of Australia’s leading researchers and professionals across the social science disciplines.

The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia represents almost 700 leading researchers shaping AU policy.

You are welcome to join the Academy on 25 November for an event aimed at welcoming the 2020 New Fellows and to recognise their outstanding contributions to the social sciences. Each New Fellow will have three minutes to discuss their research in an engaging and informative presentation.

This event is open to the public. It will be held as an online event over Zoom and a recording will be made available after the event. This event is free to attend, but registration is essential.
