Carol Harvey is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne, Consultant Psychiatrist in North West Area Mental Health Service and Director, Psychosocial Research Centre in Melbourne. Carol conducts research in epidemiology, social psychiatry and mental health services. She has a special interest in psychosocial aspects of prevention, treatment and recovery from mental illness, including the involvement of families in treatment and care. Current research projects (including those being analysed/reported) include: Building the evidence base of Prevention and Recovery Care Services (PARCS); Improving mental health for young people in out-of-home care; Assertive Care: a randomised trial to reduce cardiovascular risk for people with severe mental illness; Family involvement in mental health care through Single Session Family Consultation; and, An empirical framework for assessing mortality and morbidity in people with psychotic disorders based on prospective and retrospective follow-up of participants in the Survey of High Impact Psychosis (SHIP) using linked registers.
