Memory and Language Lab
Welcome to the Memory and Language Lab at the University of Melbourne.
Our research utilises large scale real world data, experimental paradigms and computational modelling techniques to investigate the cognitive architecture underlying memory and language. We simulate human performance looking for ways in which memory and language phenomena are manifestations of the same neural structures. We use probabilistic models, machine learning techniques, signal processing approaches and dynamic systems methods to analyse data and to uncover how the cognitive system works.
The MALL lab is at the vanguard of research using experience sampling technologies to study psychological processes. We use smartphone apps, social media and internet-of-things devices to capture a person’s experience and behaviour in their real world environment. We believe these technologies will revolutionise psychological research and practice, as we can now obtain very large longitudinal data sets with high ecological validity.
