Research Seminar: Chunhua Liu
Share via
Chunhua is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Software Engineering at The University of Melbourne, where she focuses on enhancing large language models for automated code review. She completed her PhD in 2024, with her research centered on leveraging human word associations as a novel source of commonsense knowledge to support commonsense reasoning in natural language processing models. Her goal was to deepen our understanding of why concepts are associated and to improve the commonsense reasoning capabilities of these models. Expanding her research into cultural dimensions, Chunhua has developed a keen interest in how computational models learn and interpret cultural differences. This has sparked a long-term research agenda that she is eager to pursue: exploring how cultural differences shape our daily behaviors and norms, and how these can be learned and aligned by NLP models, such as large language models. This work aims to contribute to the broader goal of aligning AI systems with the diverse cultures and values of global human societies. Chunhua has a strong interest in multidisciplinary research, particularly in NLP, cognitive psychology, and software engineering. Beyond her research, she enjoys spending time in nature, particularly through activities like hiking.
The Seminar
In this event in a series, speakers from within the Hub, the University, and the broader research community tell us about their research. Our Research Seminar Series involves speakers covering a broad range of themes surrounding our Hub’s interests, so we’ll hopefully all learn something interesting. Whether you want to learn to inform your own research or to simply satisfy a personal curiosity, we hope to see you there.
