Dr Julia Stone is an NHMRC Emerging Leader Investigator and Senior Research Fellow in the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Melbourne. She is a chronobiologist with training in sleep and circadian rhythms research. Her research program seeks to understand and model circadian disruption and its impact on health and wellbeing. She also works with computational models of the circadian system to probe mechanisms and improve individual level accuracy of models with an applied focus, including to clinical populations with circadian-based sleep disorders, in developmental contexts such as adolescence, and in applied shift work contexts.

Dr Stone completed her PhD at Monash University with a focus on circadian physiology and light in shift workers, and completed post-doctoral training under the mentorship of A/Prof Andrew Phillips and Prof Shantha Rajaratnam. She has expertise in field and laboratory based assessments of circadian timing via physiological markers (melatonin, core body temperature), field based monitoring of sleep and light patterns using wearable devices, and related functional outcomes (e.g., sleep, cognition, mental health).

Dr Stone serves as Co-Chair of the Chronobiology Council for the Australasian Sleep Association, and as Chair of the Scientific Committee for the Australasian Chronobiology Society. She is also on the Editorial Board at SLEEP.

The Seminar

In this event in a series, speakers from within the Hub, the University, and the broader research community tell us about their research. Our Research Seminar Series involves speakers covering a broad range of themes surrounding our Hub’s interests, so we’ll hopefully all learn something interesting. Whether you want to learn to inform your own research or to simply satisfy a personal curiosity, we hope to see you there.
