The Speaker

Michael Kirley is a Professor in the School of Computing and Information Systems and a Co-Director of the Melbourne Centre for Data Science. Michael's primary area of expertise is positioned at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science, with a strong emphasis on evolutionary computation. His main scientific contributions are in two areas: (1) The design and analysis of evolutionary algorithms with applications in large-scale, open and dynamic environments (with an overarching goal to develop robust optimisation methods). (2) Developing new mechanisms and algorithms, inspired by evolutionary game theory, to find innovative solutions for complex social-technological problems. Michael is currently a Chief Investigator in the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Digital Bioprocess Development and a Chief Investigator in the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre in Optimisation Technologies, Integrated Methodologies, and Applications (OPTIMA). Michael is an Associate Editor for the leading journal IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation.

The Seminar

In this event in a series, speakers from within the Hub, the University, and the broader research community tell us about their research. Our Research Seminar Series involves speakers covering a broad range of themes surrounding our Hub’s interests, so we’ll hopefully all learn something interesting. Whether you want to learn to inform your own research or to simply satisfy a personal curiosity, we hope to see you there.
