The Speaker

Paul is a Directeur de recherche at CNRS affiliated to the International Research Lab CROSSING in Adelaide (Australia), specialized in human-machine interactions and AI.

He is mostly based in Melbourne, where he is a visiting scholar at Monash University's Philosophy Department in the context of the project PLEXUS, and a honorary member of the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Melbourne.

His research deals with logic, language, epistemology, and cognitive science. Much of his work concerns vagueness in language and in perception. He is particularly interested in the issue of lexical and conceptual representations, and in the relation between vagueness and perceptual ambiguity. In the area of logic, Paul's interest has grown over the years for nonclassical logics, in particular for foundations and applications of trivalence (to vagueness, logical consequence, conditionals). He is also doing collaborative work using NLP and AI methods for vagueness measurement in discourse.

He has spent most of his career at Institut Jean-Nicod, and he is currently on leave from the Philosophy Department of ENS (Paris).

The Seminar

In this event in a series, speakers from within the Hub, the University, and the broader research community tell us about their research. Our Research Seminar Series involves speakers covering a broad range of themes surrounding our Hub’s interests, so we’ll hopefully all learn something interesting. Whether you want to learn to inform your own research or to simply satisfy a personal curiosity, we hope to see you there.
