Dr Sarah Knight awarded National Disability Research Partnership grant

We are excited to announce Dr Sarah Knight's recent grant success. The National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) has awarded $900,000 to 15 disability led co-design projects focused on the safety of people with disability. The research is funded by the NDRP through a grant from the Australian Government as an initiative under Australia's Disability Strategy 2021-2031.

All projects use co-design approaches, ensuring research is shaped by people with disability from the beginning, either co-designing research proposals or using co-design methods to bring together what is known about a topic.  Projects will run for 6 to 10 months.

The projects tackle critical safety gaps identified by the Disability Royal Commission, from family violence to institutional abuse to balancing protection and autonomy.

Psychological safety for children with 'behaviours of concern'

Children with disability who are labeled as having 'behaviours of concern' face unique risks to their psychological safety. Dr Sarah Knight's team will co-design research to help schools and services better understand and support these children, moving away from exclusion toward genuine inclusion. They are partnering with Yellow Ladybugs who have recently been in the media advocating for people with neurodevelopmental conditions (Autism/ADHD), as well as Heads Together for Brain Injury, a community organisation supporting children with brain injury and their families.
