Jacquie Eyres has been honoured with the Maureen Molloy Medal at the 2024 Awards Night of the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences (MSPS). The prestigious prize recognises the graduate with the highest average mark across the Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology). The award commemorates the legacy of Dr Maureen Molloy, a Melbourne University alumna and pioneering figure in Australian forensic neuropsychology and brain rehabilitation.
Reflecting on her decision to enrol in the Masters, she said that she chose MSPS due to its reputation as the highest-ranked university for Psychology in Australia. She commends the school's commitment to fostering critical thinking and its exceptional teaching quality as pivotal factors in her academic journey. She is now enrolled in a PhD at the School, continuing an already-impressive research career.
When asked about where she would like to take her career, she says she aims "to contribute to the field of neuropsychology by helping to bridge the gap between research and practical applications.” Ultimately, she wants to advance understanding of the intricate relationship between brain and behaviour, with a focus on improving clinical care for patients.
Throughout her studies, Jacquie’s highlights were found in clinical placements. "I most enjoyed the expansive range of placement opportunities," she shares. These experiences ranged from diagnosing neurodegenerative disorders to supporting patients in paediatric and rehabilitation settings which not only equipped her with invaluable clinical skills but boosted her confidence to pursue the field further.
The Maureen Molloy Medal resonates deeply with Jacquie. She reports that " the award validates my dedication to my studies and to the field of neuropsychology." She told us that she is humbled to receive an award named after Maureen Molloy, an eminent practitioner whose legacy continues to inspire future generations in the field.
