Being moved by music: Exploring music-induced arousal and the social relational emotion Kama Muta

Being moved by music is a complex emotional state. The term ‘kama muta’, Sanskrit for moved by love, proposes a social cognitive explanation for being moved, with a theoretical basis in Relational Models Theory. This project explores kama muta responses to music listening, with particular emphasis on enhancing our understanding of the biological and physiological correlates of the phenomenon. In doing so, we aim to characterise music-induced affective and neurobiological processes that are fundamental to social cognition.
