The Complex Human Data Hub is pleased to be hosting an interactive two-day workshop on Social Network Analysis by our colleague Dr Johan Koskinen, Stockholm University. Johan is an internationally renowned researcher in statistical analysis of social network data, and a highly experienced educator and trainer of network analysis.

The workshop will take place at the Melbourne Connect from Thurs 19 March till Fri 20 March 2026. There are four sessions lasting 3 hours each. Participants can attend individual sessions or attend all sessions. Participants can attend in-person or virtually through Zoom. Registration and details are available here.

Sessions

1.      Social influence in cross-sectional network data (Thursday 19 Mar, 9:30am-12:30pm)

This session will introduce the Auto-logistic Actor Attribute Model (ALAAM) as a model for investigating social influence in cross-sectional data. We will cover practical aspects of implementing the analysis, including examples of reading in and formatting the data, conducting the analysis, and interpreting the results.

2.       Advanced Topics in ALAAMs (Thursday 19 Mar, 1:30-4:30pm)

This session will describe recent theoretical developments of the ALAAM and demonstrate its implementation in R. We will cover model selection, missing data and other extensions for Bayesian Inference for ALAAM in R. This session will include a tea and coffee station.

3.       Modelling Social Influence with panel network data (Friday 20 Mar, 9:30am-12:30pm)

This session will introduce the Stochastic-Actor Oriented Model (SAOM) as a model for dynamic co-evolution of behaviours and network structures across time. We will first describe fundamentals of the SAOM and demonstrate its implementation in R with RSiena.

4.       Advanced modelling of social influence with panel network data (Friday 20 Mar, 1:30-4:30pm)

This session caps off the SAOM with theoretical developments and a demonstration of its implementation in RSiena. Topics include a hierarchical approach to the SAOM and approaches for missing data for longitudinal network data.
