Welcome to the MSPS Industry Career Pathways Week for PhD, postdoc and honours students within the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences.

How to survive a PhD in a pandemic

This presentation will discuss some of the complexities and challenges of doing a PhD in a pandemic. The expectations on PhD students and how they need to be adjusted will be explored as will the importance of high-quality supervision. There will be plenty of tips on how to communicate effectively to improve research careers.

A career in industry can be exciting and rewarding. Through this expert panel, we hope to dispel some of the mystery around career pathways into industry and explore the practicalities of finding gainful employment.

Our panel of experts will explore:

*  Which industries will likely be hiring in 2021 and what are the hiring processes like?
*  What skills is industry looking for that you might have?
*  What position titles and job descriptions should you be looking for? What are industry graduate positions advertised as?
*  How do I transfer academic skills into a CV that will appeal to industry?
*  What are some concrete steps I can take to embark on a career with industry? How can I upskill?

Industry Experience Panel Ever wondered what a career outside academia might be like? This panel event will showcase several alternative avenues for a career in psychology research in industry. This specially handpicked panel of experts will share their experiences transitioning from being an academic to an industry professional, along with the current landscape and realities of industry research.
