MISRA World Mental Health Day Event

Reducing stigma and discrimination towards people with mental ill-health is a national priority. The language used to talk about mental ill-health can play a key role in reducing stigma, and it is constantly evolving. But what terms should be used and when?
Join us from 6-7 pm on Thursday 10 October for a conversation about the role of language in describing mental health, as we negotiate the challenges of communicating in ways that increase support and understanding, and reduce stigma.
Our panel for the evening includes:
▪ Professor Nicola Reavley, Principal Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Centre for Mental Health, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health
▪ Dr Michelle Blanchard, Honorary, Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences
▪ Professor Nick Haslam, Professor of Psychology, Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences
▪ Fay Jackson BCVA, Dip.Ed, EBE Jackson, General Manager of Inclusion at Flourish Australia
▪ Sandy Jeffs OAM, Author and Poet
The discussion will be moderated by Dr Chris Groot from the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences.
