Mood and Anxiety Disorders Laboratory
Our laboratory investigates the biological, psychological, social and cognitive mechanisms and processes involved in the development of affective and anxiety disorders. Our research involves the investigation of these processes in both healthy adults and a range of clinical and medically ill groups. We also examine transdiagnostic cognitive factors across mood and anxiety disorders longitudinally in community, clinical and medically ill populations. We apply this knowledge to develop and evaluate novel and innovative psychological interventions for mood and anxiety disorders and related issues in randomised controlled trials (including targeting various populations such as the medically ill, different cultural groups).

Exciting Honours, Masters and PhD opportunities are currently available
We are seeking interested candidates with an undergraduate background in psychology, biomedicine or science to work on a funded biomarkers of depression study where we are examining a range of biomarkers related to depression in various populations (clinical, multiple sclerosis). The student would assist with undertaking lab-based cytokine analyses (usually taken from saliva samples) and results from these analyses would contribute to their research projects. All research will be co-supervised by Dr Litza Kiropoulos (Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences) and Professor Neil O’Brien-Simpson (Melbourne Dental School).
Please contact Dr Litza Kiropoulos on 9035 4063 or email litzak@unimelb.edu.au for more information.
