Indigenous Psychology Student Association (IPSA)
The Indigenous Psychology Student Association (IPSA) is a student-led group for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences (MSPS). We aim to create a culturally safe peer network where students can connect, share experiences and support each other through their studies. Our vision is to build a strong community of future Indigenous psychologists and researchers while promoting cultural visibility within the School.
IPSA began when a small group of Indigenous psychology students recognised a need for connection and support. For many years, it was difficult to find other Indigenous students within the School, and there was no dedicated association to bring us together. We also saw an opportunity to advocate for more culturally informed content within the curriculum and a learning environment where Indigenous perspectives are valued.
Looking ahead, we’re planning an informal yarn for Indigenous students who are studying – or thinking about studying – psychology. If you’d like to join us, stay updated on events, or get involved, contact us at ispa.unimelb@gmail.com or connect with us on Instagram.
