Introducing Karin Matko
Meet Dr Karin Matko who joins the Contemplative Studies Centre from Germany as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Mindfulness and Mental Health.
As a positive psychologist, Karin is interested in finding ways to foster mental health and flourishing. Contemplative practices are powerful tools in this respect. However, we still know little about when, how and whom they help. Hence, in her research, she explores the basic working mechanisms of meditation and yoga and questions of personal fit. Karin is currently preparing the first worldwide meditation survey to give voice to all types of meditators and explore how and why they practise. She is thrilled to join the Centre and its thriving community of fellow contemplative researchers to continue and expand her research.
Being a trained yoga teacher and enthusiastic researcher, Karin loves being able to combine theory and practice and explore all kinds of contemplative practices. She enjoys working in collaborative, inclusive and mindful communities such as the CSC. Karin is passionate about making the world a better place and protecting the beauty of nature.
When she is not working, Karin enjoys spending time with her husband and kids and tries to squeeze in a large range of hobbies, such as yoga, dancing, hiking, singing, acting, swimming and meeting friends. Mostly, her days have too few hours!
