Position Summary

Since early 2018, the University of Melbourne has been successfully running an interdisciplinary PhD program in mental health (MHPP) under the joint leadership of the Centre for Mental Health (Melbourne School of Population and Global Health), the Department of Psychiatry (Melbourne Medical School), the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences, the Centre for Youth Mental Health – Orygen, and the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health.

The program is open to PhD students enrolled in any part of the University who are studying mental health-related topics. The Program aims to supplement their training with webinars, workshops and other professional development activities and provide an integrated cohort experience using an online platform.

The five academic units responsible for the PhD program are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to support the co-directors in coordinating the program’s operations in 2021. In consultation with the Program Directors, the successful applicant will organise, promote, and coordinate some of the MHPP events. The position will last from March 2021 until the end of December 2021.

1. Key Responsibilities
EVENT COORDINATION AND PROMOTION

  • Organizing, coordinating and running a monthly event for - and in collaboration with - the PhD students of the Program;
  • Promoting Mental Health PhD Program events, internally on Teams and via social media platforms;
  • Liaising with co-director Dr Marjolein Kammers to discuss operational requirements;
  • Attendance of UoM PhD Program Coordinators Best Practice Meetings (on average once every 2-3 months for 1.5 hours);
  • Attendance of some of the Co-Director Meetings.

The incumbent will be flexible and proactive and have affinity with mental health research from multidisciplinary perspectives.

2. Selection Criteria
2.1 ESSENTIAL

  • A graduate qualification in a mental health-related field;
  • Commenced or finished a PhD researching a topic related to mental health;
  • Demonstrated organisational and co-ordination skills for (online) events;
  • Familiarity with MS Teams and Zoom;
  • Ability to work in a flexible manner.

2.2 DESIRABLE

  • Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research within the field of Mental Health;
  • Familiarity with Twitter, Facebook and Eventbrite.

3. MHPP Leadership Structure (for clarification)

3.1 THE CO-DIRECTORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Development of program structure and vision;
  • Development of marketing materials;
  • PhD student recruitment;
  • Coordinating communication with PhD students;
  • Coordinating and running a monthly webinar together with the Program Event Coordinators (please see below);
  • Providing suggestions for content and speakers for events in line with the Program’s multidisciplinary framework.

3.2 THE OPERATIONS MANAGER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Organizing, coordinating and running a monthly event for - and in collaboration with - the PhD students of the Program;
  • Promoting Mental Health PhD Program events, internally on Teams and via social media platforms;
  • Liaising with co-director Dr Marjolein Kammers to discuss operational requirements;

3.3 THE EVENT CO-ORDINATORS* ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Supporting individual events:
    • Introducing speakers;
    • Chairing (online) discussions;
    • Leading (online) Q&As;
    • Promoting events on the online Teams platform.
