What is this study about?
In this project, we’re investigating wellbeing and environmental influences, specifically whether our wellbeing, emotions, behaviours and thoughts are affected by knowing more about the environment around us.
This project is part of an Honours student thesis for 2020, and the results will be used to help researchers develop interventions to improve wellbeing.
If you take part in this study, what will you need to do?
The study consists of 2 parts:
- You will be asked to download the smartphone application SEMA3, and participate in a baseline questionnaire on Qualtrics which will take about 30 minutes.
- Beginning on the following Monday, you’ll receive a series of very short smartphone surveys asking questions about your wellbeing. Surveys will be sent only 3 times a day, for 7 days, and should take 3-5 minutes to complete. After the 7 days, you will be asked to complete another Qualtrics questionnaire which will take around 30 minutes.
What will I receive for my participation?
You will be paid in Australian GiftPay vouchers, which are distributed online and can be used at a wide variety of stores (e.g. Coles, Myer, David Jones, Woolworths, see giftpay.com.au for more details). You can be paid up to $45 for your time.
For downloading the SEMA3 app and undertaking the baseline questionnaire (Part 1), you will receive $15 in gift cards. Following this, you’ll receive up to $30 in gift cards depending on your participation in the smartphone surveys and the final questionnaire (Part 2). You will receive the full $30 if you complete at least 80% of the surveys and the final questionnaire. You’ll receive $5 less for every 10% fewer surveys you complete (so for example, if you complete between 70 - 79% you'll receive $25 for the smartphone surveys). You’ll receive $15 less if you do not complete the final questionnaire.
Who is eligible to participate?
There are 3 eligibility requirements for the study: (1) You must be currently residing in Australia*; (2) You must own an iPhone (iOS 8 or above) or an Android (Android 6.0 or above), which is NOT an Oppo or Huawei phone; (3) You must be comfortable installing the SEMA3 application onto your smartphone.
* GiftPay vouchers will only be available for businesses in Australia.
